Government and public sector

We've done a lot of work with the Department of
Energy and Climate Change. Captioning the updates
from the Copenhagen climate change summit was
especially exciting, as we worked around the clock
to get captions online for each video within 24 hours.

 

When the Highways Agency commissioned a new
web video campaign to raise awareness of road safety
amongst children, we were pleased to be asked to
provide closed captions. The original site used a custom
Flash player, so we produced DFXP captions to suit.

 

Her Majesty's Prison Service asked us to provide captions
and subtitles for a DVD in 2010. The DVD acts as an
introduction to HM Prison High Down, for new visitors.
We supplied English captions, as well as subtitles
in French, German and Spanish.

 

North East Access to Finance was set up to develop
and safeguard the culture of business investment
in the north-east of England. When they created
an "elevator pitch" video to help new businesses prepare
for investment pitches, we provided the closed captions.

 

Education

JISC is the organisation responsible for leading the way
on technology use in UK higher education, so of course
they wanted to be ahead of the curve on video accessibility.
We've worked with them for a long time, captioning
everything from YouTube videos to interactive PDFs.

 

Leeds Met is another organisation that's been quick to
grasp the commercial advantages of making videos
accessible to wider audiences. As well as captions for
some of their YouTube videos, we've supplied them with
open subtitles translating their videos into Mandarin.

 

Learning and Teaching Scotland is the principal curriculum
body for Scotland. We worked on a series of LTS projects
alongside Ten Alps Vision, captioning video interviews
with the keynote speakers at LTS's prestigious flagship
conference, the Scottish Learning Festival.

 

Healthcare

Our largest project to date was for the NHS. They had a
complicated interactive video project concerning HIV and
safe sex, and they needed it subtitled in nine languages.
We encoded over 150 video clips, in languages including
Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese, Italian, Slovak and Polish.

 

Technology

The Thinking Digital conference, hailed as "TED for the
UK", is a mindboggling glimpse of all our futures, and
unmissable for an innovative digital company like us.
We were partners of the conference in 2009 and 2010
and we've captioned a number of their promo videos.

 

Oracle setting up an Exadata demo centre in Hungary
is big news. So big that they wanted the world outside
Hungary to hear about it. We worked in partnership
with Radix Communications to quickly and accurately
subtitle Oracle's Hungarian promo video in English.

 

If the CEO of Sage Northern Europe wants to make
a webcast, he needs to be understood in many
different countries. Working alongside Ten Alps Vision,
and on a tight timescale, we provided open subtitles
for Sage in French, English, German and Spanish.

 

Appropriately for a tech magazine, .net found us
via Twitter. They had a topical, high-profile
interview video and needed captions fast, before
the story faded from the news. Of course we were
happy to help, turning the job around in hours.

 

Production companies

We've worked with Cambridge Film & TV Productions
on a series of DVD projects. On one occasion
this involved captioning, QCing and rendering
over 275 minutes of footage in only five days.
But hey, we love a challenge.

 

Ten Alps Vision have a very wide range of clients,
from large multinationals to local government,
and they have a very wide range of needs.
But whatever the job we're always ready
with the super-fast turnaround times they need.

 

Lets Go Global do some amazing work
enabling people to become video content producers.
We've done several captioning projects with them
and they're currently helping us to develop
a new workflow for Apple's Final Cut Pro.

 

Real Impact were among the first of our clients
to appreciate the potential of using captions
for search engine optimisation. Some of their clients
now commission captions primarily for SEO, although
of course the accessibility benefits are important too.

 

As well as their award-winning work for clients,
Superkrush do amazing things in community filmmaking.
Our work on their film Transitions was an early test
of our ability to render captions for DVD
as well as for the internet.

 

Housing

We love to work with organisations that have a positive
social agenda, and Link Housing are a good example.
They're one of Scotland's leading housing providers,
and their projects make a real difference. We were
pleased they asked us to caption their online videos.

 

When South Tyneside Homes commissioned a series
of videos to introduce their Decent Homes Programme,
we worked alongside Ten Alps Vision to make the videos
accessible. This was a DVD project, and we rendered
our captions as TIFF files for use in Apple DVD Studio Pro.

 

Arts, charities and other organisations

Radix is a copywriting, design and localisation company, based
in what they tell us we should refer to as the Cornish Riviera.
They have a very similar ethos to ours when it comes to
virtual teams and the importance of correct comma usage,
so we're proud to be their go-to guys for subtitles.

 

BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art is northern England's
response to the Tate Modern. The BALTIC team use video
a lot and take their accessibility responsibilities seriously.
We spent some time with them on a consultancy basis
to help them improve their in-house captioning.

 

Full Circle Arts is a disability arts development agency based in
Manchester. Always among our most inspiring clients, they do
some great projects and campaigns to support inclusion for
disabled people in the arts. And of course we're always keen
to see the resulting videos and provide captions for them.
